Dear MCPS Friends & Families:
It is that time of the year again (yes, already!)... it's Kindergarten Registration time!!!
If you have a little one who will be starting JK or SK, next September 2021, or if you know of someone who needs to know this information, please read the message below and please pass it on!
In normal, non-COVID times, parents/guardians of JK/SK registrants, would attend our registration night (normally held in the school in October), however with new protocols and rules, this process, like most these days, will be completed online or with calls to school, to initiate the process.
Registrations for 2021-22 need to be completed in October for the coming year, as they are used to determine educational staff and needs.
If you have a child starting kindergarten in September 2021, please visit www.bwdsb.on.ca
Click the “Pre-Registering Your Child for Kindergarten” button to locate the registration guide.
Parents/guardians will pre-register their new JK or SK children online for the 2021-22 school year, during the month of October. When the school receives the pre-registration email, we will send an electronic package to your indicated email.
Note: Parents/guardians who do not have access to the internet are kindly asked to call the school at (519)367-5548. Printed packages can be made available for you for pickup at the school at a scheduled date/time.
If you should have any questions, please just give us a call, as we are here to help!
Registrations must be completed in October for next year's incoming JK/SK students.
We can't wait to meet our newest Thunderbolts!

URGENT FOR ALL PARENTS- REGISTRATION FOR ALL STUDENTS FOR SEPTEMBER IS REQUIRED (new and returning students)!
PLEASE READ AND FOLLOW THE DETAILS BELOW AS THIS IS ESSENTIAL TO STUDENT RETURNS IN SEPTEMBER:
(From the Director letter- excerpt)
Dear BWDSB Parents/Guardians: There is an important requirement in this year’s return to school planning that I would also like to bring to your attention.
In order to ensure adequate safety plans are in place, the Ministry of Education is recommending that all parents/guardians in Ontario register their children for the fall term in advance.
This will be required even if your child(ren) previously had been registered to attend a Bluewater District School Board school. All students, new and current, who are planning to attend Bluewater District School Board schools must be registered on or before August 19, 2020 in order to ensure they will be able to start on the first day of school, September 8, 2020.
To register, simply complete our student pre-registration survey at this link:Link to BWDSB updates
Parents/guardians who choose to keep their child(ren) at home at the beginning of the school year are also required to fill out the above student pre-registration survey, where they will indicate their preference for remote learning.

Dear MCPS staff, students, families & community friends:

I wanted to take a moment to touch base with all of you, to thank you for an amazing first year at MCPS! Mildmay has always been a very special community to me, as it is where I spent summer holidays, Christmas Eve's, and Hanging of the Greens with my grandparents and great-grandparents who were life-long members of this amazing Bruce County town and surrounding area. For me it was a true treasure to be back here, surrounded by my own memories and those of my mother and her siblings, who were born and raised here! The traits of community friendship, support, kindness and fun that I remember, has been everything that these memories reflected and much more! I was thrilled to be able to see some former classmates who are now MCPS parents and grandparents, and I was able to reconnect with some former colleagues!

As an educator, I have had the privilege of working with amazing students, staffs and families, and I have to say that MCPS has been a gift to me! I want to thank you all for welcoming me and making me feel so very, very at home here. There is an absolute sense of warmth of heart, in this school community; the staff here is amazing and truly love each and every one of your children. I watch them go above and beyond daily, in order to create strong academic programming, and to lead instruction that allows for explorations, engagement and true meaning, that connects to real-world applications, and to building the future skills that they will need. They are a staff who know that kids need to love school and they have made that their priority- for this, please join me in thanking them!!!

It is very clear that the students at MCPS have strong adult role models both here at school and at home with all of you! I have always believed that expression that "it takes a village to raise a child", and at MCPS this combination of strong parents/guardians, teachers and wider community volunteers, supporters and events, has raised a village of some of the most kind-hearted, selfless, respectful, funny, thoughtful, diligent, and hard-working students out there.

Commitment to children in our "village", be it here in Mildmay, Ontario, Canada or the world, has been tried and tested this school year, as we all find ourselves in unchartered waters with COVID-19. It has been hard for everyone- young and old(er), as we have faced steep learning curves with online learning, financial and work worries, health and safety measures, trying to manage working from home or away from home while also supporting our own children and families, and now, some uncertainty about what the world and our schools and school year will look like in the Fall. Please accept my sincerest thanks to all of you (parents, students and staff) for your partnerships during this time, for your strength of character, your patience and flexibility, for your perseverance to overcome hard times and obstacles, and for your sense of strength as we forged our way through everything- together and will all continue to do so, regardless of what comes our way. Together we stand strong, and as we have learned this year, we can still stand together even when we are physically apart. We can do hard things at MCPS!

I would truly like to thank each and every one of you, for allowing us to be a part of your children's lives- these amazing students are true testaments to all of you and you should all be so very, very proud!

As we look back on the past year, I encourage you to think of the wonderful memories and continue to exemplify positivity and optimism as we go forward. We have a powerful team of students, parents and staff in our Thunderbolt community, and I will keep saying it because it is simply true... "Together we are all Thunderbolt strong!"

On this note, my wish for all of you, is to have a relaxing, rejuvenating and fun summer, and to continue to be your Thunderiffic selves. Attached is a small slideshow of just a few of the wonderful and cherished MCPS 2019-20 memories I have of this school year, including our Grade 8 grads, who are exceptional in every single way! I hope it makes you smile...

Take care and be well,
Mrs. Napper-Sharpe

RE: COVID-19
Dear Parents/Guardians:

We want you to know that our thoughts are with all of our MCPS families, and our community members across the province, the country, and the world, during these unprecedented times. It is during times such as these, that Canadians stand together, support one another and offer the enduring kindness, compassion and resilience that we are all known for.

At present, the number one priority for all is to stay safe and healthy- we wish that for everyone, everywhere. We can all help to do our part in this, by following the recommendations from WHO (World Health Organization):
  • Staying at home as per the provincial and federal requests
  • Avoiding gatherings
  • Practicing adequate physical distancing
  • Washing your hands for 15-20 seconds with soap and using hand sanitizer
  • Coughing or sneezing into your arm
  • If you have any symptoms, self-monitoring and self-isolating, and contacting a health care
    professional if symptoms persist
  • If you have travelled outside Canada recently, ensuring you must self-isolate for 14 days

We know how difficult this time is for everyone as they support their children, aging family members and neighbours, face financial turmoil and uncertainty, or face a medical crisis. At this time, please know that there are numerous resources available to help answer questions about COVID-19, how to support mental health during this time, as well as resources to support with learning for students at home. These are all located in the links below this message!

We do want our parents/guardians to know that during this time, health and well-being are the number one focus. We do not want parents or students to feel overwhelmed or anxious, and as such, we are trying to provide completely optional resources from the Ministry and our staff and school board, that are engaging, easy to follow & navigate, and that adhere to and align with the Ontario Curriculum.

At present, please be assured that the Ministry of Education and BWDSB, are working diligently to find a way to support families and students should this provincial closure continue, and please know that we will keep you up-to-date with all of this as we know more.

We encourage you if you have not already, to follow us on Facebook (the link symbol is available in the top right of our Home Page, as well as in the QuickLink to the right side of this letter). This is a quick, easy and very up-to-date way to stay informed and to access resources and information as it happens.

Take care, and be safe & well!
Your Partner in Education,
Tracy Napper-Sharpe
